Obituary for Walter M. Schnackenberg

WALTER MARTIN SCHNACKENBERG, 76, of 162 East New Lenox Road,Pittsfield, died Tuesday, May 26, at his home. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 10, 1932, a son of August and Marie Ficken Schnackenberg, he was a 1950 graduate of Shrub Oak (New York) High School and a 1954 graduate of the State University of New York with a degree in electrical engineering.
A Korean War veteran, he served as a corporal with the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, and became a radar instructor.
Mr. Schnackenberg enjoyed a long-career with General Electric Company working out of their plants in Schenectady, New York, Syracuse, New York, Cape Kennedy, Florida, at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and Huntsville, Alabama. In 1975, he was transferred to Pittsfield where he remained until his retirement in 1993.
At the time of his death, Mr. Schnackenberg was President of the Faith Lutheran Church on Holmes Road in Pittsfield.
He was a member of the Republican National Committee. He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, The Caribbean, and Europe. He also participated in local and church activities, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Schnackenberg leaves his wife, Mary Lou, whom he married September 19, 1958, in Santa Maria, California.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Chip, and his wife, Jeanne; three daughters, Helen, Anne and husband, Michael, and Katarina her husband, Kim; a brother Rudolf Schnackenberg of Wappinger Falls, New York; eight grandchildren, Angela, Paul, Nicholas, Jody, Jesse, Jayme, Etta and Sophia.

FUNERAL NOTICE:Funeral services for WALTER MARTIN SCHNACKENBERG, who died Tuesday, May 26, will be Friday, May 29, at 10:00 a.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 885 Holmes Road, Pittsfield, with Pastor Peter Kesting, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Schnackenberg may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
