Obituary for Yolanda A. Romano

Yolanda A. Romano, 89, a lifelong resident of Middlefield passed away on November 29, 2016 at Hillcrest Commons of Pittsfield. Born on October 21, 1927 in Middlefield, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Alice Fox Romano. She was educated in Middlefield schools and was a 1945 graduate of the former Dalton High School. She then went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from Westfield State College in Early Education and later her Master's in Education from Springfield College. Yolanda had also studied to become a Sister at St. Marie's in Holyoke taking the name of Sister Helena Frances. A teacher and farmer, she taught for many years in the Otis, Middlefield, Southbridge and Brookfield school systems.
At the time of her retirement she was employed as a kindergarten teacher in the Springfield School System. Yolanda enjoyed running her farm in Middlefield and also enjoyed gardening, poetry, books and her animals. She leaves her nieces and nephews and her close friends; Tim and Marie Pease of Middlefield. She was predeceased by her brother; Gerard Romano and by her foster sister; Helen Bolduc.

Memorial donations in memory of Yolanda may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226 which is handling arrangements.
