Obituary for Winnie Bell Payton

WINNIE BELL NEWTON PAYTON, 84, of 365 West 118th Street, New York,
New York, died Friday afternoon at Berkshire Medical Center. She had been residing in Pittsfield with her granddaughter.
Born in Falkland, North Carolina, October 31, 1923, the daughter of Art and
Jennette Morgan Newton, she was educated in Falkland, North Carolina, schools.
At the time of her death, Mrs.Payton was the Pastor of the Revive Church of
Jesus of Apostolic Faith in New York of which she founded in 1969.
She enjoyed gardening. Her greatest joy was preaching the Word of God.
Her husband, Carlton Payton, whom she married March 30, 1940, died October 31, 1978.
Mrs. Payton leaves her granddaughter, Sabrina D. Powell of Pittsfield; and four
great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her son, Joseph N. Payton.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for WINNIE BELL NEWTON PAYTON, who died Friday,
November 2, will be Thursday, November 8, at 11:00 a.m., at the Isaiah Owens Funeral
Home, 216 Lenox Avenue, New York, New York. Calling hours will precede the service
beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Mount Holiness Memorial Park in Butler,
New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Payton may be made to
Berkshire Medical Center�Renal Dialysis Unit in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54
Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Pastor Payton, who is remembered as one who walked in the Spirit and
Proclaimed the name of Jesus wherever she went, also leaves her grandson-in-law,
Pittsfield Police Officer Walter J. Powell, and four grandchildren, Shakirra Smalls,
Davasia Oliver, Michael Traylor, and Starr Powell.
