Obituary for Winifred Ellen Garvey

Winifred Ellen Garvey, 91, of 32 Kenwood Street, Pittsfield, died Thursday,
November 1, 2012, at Craneville Place of Dalton, after a brief illness. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Craneville Place and their exceptional staff.
Born in Watervliet, New York, on October 5, 1921, a daughter of William B.
Palmer, Sr., and Julia MacGregor Palmer, she was educated in Pittsfield schools and was
a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Garvey was employed by New England Telephone as an Office Clerk for twenty five years.
Following her retirement, she volunteered thousands of hours to Hillcrest
Hospital. Winifred thoroughly enjoyed being with family and friends. Those who knew
her were well aware of her never-ending smile and her warm inviting heart.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
Her husband, Thomas L. Garvey, whom she married February 14, 1948, died
January 29, 1953.
Mrs. Garvey is survived by a daughter, Maryellen Garvey and husband, Thomas
Malatesta, of Vernon, New Jersey; three sons, Thomas Garvey and his wife, Leslie, of
Pittsfield, Michael Garvey and his wife, Patty, of Pittsfield, and William Garvey and his
wife, Lisabeth, of Pittsfield; a sister, Ann Palmer of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill and Jim, and her sister, Mary.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Winifred Ellen Garvey will be held Monday, November 5,
at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00
a.m., at St. Joseph Church celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Northampton. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Winifred may be made to The Christian
Center in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
