Obituary for William A. Mitchell

Mr. William Albert Mitchell, 80, of Hinsdale, Ma. died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born on January 13, 1927 in Pittsfield, Ma. a son of the late George and Louise Mitchell. He attended elementary school in the village of Berkshire and also attended Pittsfield Schools where he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was a World War II United States Navy Veteran serving overseas aboard the USS Biloxi. Mr. Mitchell was last employed by the General Electric Company as a mechanic for 17 years retiring in 1987. Prior to working at GE he was co-owner of the former Lee & Bills Gulf Station in the Allendale Section of Pittsfield and later moving to South St. in Pittsfield for many years. He was a Golden Sheaf member of the Hinsdale Grange, a member of the Dalton VFW, a member of the Hinsdale Senior Center; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He leaves his wife the former Lauria E. Bourdo whom he married at Saint Patrick's Church in Hinsdale, Ma. on Oct. 6, 1947. Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Linda M. Rollins of Pittsfield, Frances C. Major of Plainfield and Cynthia L. Oligny of Middlefield. Five grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Laura Ann Mitchell in 1951.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for William A. Mitchell who died July 20, 2007 will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St. Dalton, Ma. with the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours at the funeral home will be TUESDAY from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory may be made to Hinsdale Ambulance Fund or to Elder Services of Berkshire County both in care of the funeral home. Mr. Mitchell is lovingly survived by his five grandchildren, Amy Coyne, Renee Dillon, William and Laura Kane and Sandra Oligny and by his four great grandchildren. Also survived by sons in law, Ronald Major and Peter Oligny. He was predeceased by a daughter Laura Ann Mitchell at 3 years of age in 1951, by a granddaughter, Christina Louise Rollins in 1999 and by two brothers George and Edward Mitchell.
