Obituary for William C. Lyon

WILLIAM CHARLES LYON, 81, of 37 Waubeek Road, Pittsfield, died Friday, April 1, 2011. Born in Pittsfield, on August 25, 1929, a son of Edmonds D. and Mary Augusta Umbs Lyon, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
A Korean War veteran, he served as a Private with the United States Army
from May 29, 1951, to December 15, 1952.
Mr. Lyon was the owner of Pontoosuc Specialty Co. for 40 years retiring
in 1999. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed fishing, was a fan of Boston sports teams, and collected coins.
He especially enjoyed wintering in the Florida Keys for twenty years. He enjoyed vacationing at York Beach Maine, camping at Lake George and Saranac Lake.
Mr. Lyons leaves his wife of fifty five years, the former Shirley Ann Bartini,
whom he married September 5, 1955.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, William K. Lyon and his wife Michelle of Pittsfield, and
Jeffrey P. Lyon and his wife, Kathy, of Lanesborough; a daughter, Bonnie Lyon of
Lanesborough; eight grandchildren, Molly B. Lyon Ferioli of Lee, Mary E. Lyon
Daire of St. Eulalie, France, William L. Lyon, Jeffrey P. Lyon, Jennifer Lyon, Robert
Turner, Hailey Turner, and Shane Turner, all of Pittsfield; seven great grandchildren;
as well as a sister, Mary Jane Leab of Cheshire; three brothers, Wesley Lyon, Eugene "Jeep" Lyon, and Richard Lyon, all of Pittsfield; and seven great grand children.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for WILLIAM CHARLES LYON will be held Monday,
April 4, at 3:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Dr. Robert M. Rennie,
Minister of First Baptist Church, officiating. Calling hours will precede the service
beginning at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Lyon may
be made to the Mt. Greylock Ski Club in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford
Street, Pittsfield. The family cordially invites everyone for a celebration of life following the service at the funeral home to the Skyline Country Club in Lanesboro.
