Obituary for William G. "Billy" Kristensen, Jr.

William G. Kristensen, Jr., (Billy), 61, of Cheshire, MA, passed away on February 11, 2021 at Hillcrest Commons.

Born in Pittsfield on August 21, 1959, he was the son of William G. and Sandra Church Kristensen. He attended Lanesborough Schools and was a graduate of Mount Greylock High School.

Employed at Hi Tech Mold and Tool since 1983, he was instrumental in setting up a series of assembly features that are still in production today.

Billy loved wildlife and took many photos, one of a momma bear and her cubs as he fed them on his deck. He would take in many stray animals and nurture them to health. When he was 10 years old, he and his friend Steve found a turtle and they fed it and took care of it until the fall when Dad told him to return it to the brook, which he did. The turtle had a splashy yellow mark on his bottom and the following year he and his friend found the turtle again and brought it home.

In his younger years, he was very active in sports and played Little League Baseball in Lanesborough, Babe Ruth and high school baseball for Mount Greylock High School. He belonged to Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts. Billy spent many Saturday’s helping his uncle Neils collect paper for the Lanesborough Lions Club and driving to New York to the recycling plant, turning the paper in for money, which went toward helping people with eye problems.

Billy loved to dress up with his long coat and cowboy boots and go out dancing with his many friends. If he was your friend, you were a friend for life, and if you needed a helping hand, he was there, helping all his close neighbors as well.

He is survived by his loving parents and sisters, Carleen Kristensen of Becket, Donna Kristensen of Lanesborough and Kellie and Robert Hazelton of South Windsor, CT. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

The family would like to thank his special nephew, Dane Matthews, the doctors and nurses, who were so caring and kind.

Graveside services will be held, Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
