Obituary for William C. Holmes

WILLIAM 'BILL' CHARLES HOLMES, 42, of Pittsfield, died Thursday, July 30, at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family, following a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield, May 31, 1967, a son of Phyllis J. Turner Holmes and the late James E. Holmes, he was educated in Pittsfield schools.
Mr. Holmes had been the Produce Manager at Harry's Supermarket on Elm Street. Previously, he had worked as a caregiver for Meridian Associates. He had also been employed by the former Bradlees Department Store and the Hot Dog Ranch. He was a New York Yankees fan, and enjoyed bowling and wrestling. He also enjoyed computers, movies, music, and video games. He loved animals. Bill will be
remembered for his quick wit and a good sense of humor. Besides his mother of Pittsfield, he leaves a son, James; his brother, Michael J.
Holmes of Pittsfield; three sisters, Mary R. Tolley and her fianc�e, Bill Sprenger of
Northeast Roanoke, Virginia, Barbara E. Plaine and her husband, Mitch, of Pittsfield, and
Patricia Holmes-Alcombright and her husband, Alan of Savoy; two nephews, Zack
Tolley, P.J. McGee; five nieces, Courtney Tolley, Ashley Tolley, Kelli McGee, Rachael
Plaine, and Amanda Plaine; a brother-in-law, Larry Hudock; as well as his special
friends, Bill Madewell and Jackie Decorie; his cat, Smokey/Miss Kitty; and his dog,
Christmas.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Susan J. Holmes McGee, who died in 2005.
The family would like to thank Mr. Holmes' caregivers, as well as the staff of
Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association, Berkshire Hematology and Oncology, and
Berkshire Radiology.


FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for WILLIAM 'BILL' CHARLES HOLMES, who died
Thursday, July 30, will be Tuesday, August 4, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Joseph's Cemetery,
with Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating. (Those attending
are invited to meet inside the Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.) There are no calling hours. In lieu
of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Holmes may be made to the American Cancer
Society or to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association both in care of DERY FUNERAL
HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
