Obituary for William J. Gilmore

William J. Gilmore, 84, of Richmond, MA, peacefully passed away December 4, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on May 5, 1936, he was the son of James F. and Alice W. Smyth Gilmore.

He graduated in 1954 from St. Thomas More Catholic H.S. After 9 years of night school, he graduated in 1965 from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, where he earned a BSME.

William married the former Patricia Ann E. Case on August 24, 1957.

He worked as a mechanical engineer for 47 years, having worked for Beloit Corp. from 1961 until 2000, starting out as a Mechanical Draftsman and working up to V.P. of Engineering. In 2000 he worked for GL&V as Sales Manager of Engineering. He retired in 2008.

A Communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, he was a member of T.A.P.P.I. since 1969 and was part of multiple associations as it related to Winder Machinery for the Pulp & Paper industry.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Pat Gilmore of Richmond; five daughters, Patricia A Gilmore of Pittsfield, Donna M Gilmore and Jeff van Lingen of Lenox, Diane M Houston and husband Dan of Hendersonville, NC, Linda M Gilmore of Pittsfield and Alicia A Gilmore of Pittsfield; four sons, William J. Gilmore, Jr. of Old Orchard Beach, ME, James F. Gilmore and wife Sharon of Pittsfield, Michael W. Gilmore of Granby, CT, and Blase W. Gilmore of Richmond; as well as his sister, Eileen Zimmerman of Media, PA; nineteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by his brother, James F. Gilmore, Jr.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, THURSDAY, December 10, 2020 at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, Pastor. Entombment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held WEDNESDAY, December 9, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. We gently remind those attending that masks are required and to please practice social distancing. Due to current regulations, entry may take a bit longer and we ask for your patience.
