Obituary for William F. Garneau

WILLIAM FRANCIS GARNEAU, 92, formerly of Colonial Gardens, and a longtime resident of Wellington Avenue, Pittsfield, died Thursday evening at Westview Nursing Home in Dayville, Connecticut.
Born in Adams, Massachusetts, July 16, 1914, a son of Nelson and Virginia Gamache Garneau, he was a graduate of St. Joseph Central High School and attended the University of Buffalo.
He served in the National Guard and had worked with the Civilian Conservation
Corps. Mr. Garneau was employed by General Electric Company as a toolmaker. During his time there, he wrote a fishing column for The G.E. News. He retired in 1997.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. A talented musician, he played with The Greylock Mountain Boys during the l930s and continued to entertain family and friends with his music throughout his lifetime. He was also a great outdoorsman and naturalist who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking.
His wife of 59 years, the former
Dorothy M. Harrington, died June 20, 2000.
Mr. Garneau is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Clarkson of Safety Harbor,
Florida; Honora Butts of Pomfret Center, Connecticut; and Marion Dewyngaert of
Hudson, New Hampshire; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for WILLIAM FRANCIS GARNEAU, who died Thursday,
September 14, will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St.
Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Mr. Garneau will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and
many friends, including his sons-in-law, Robert Clarkson, Ralph Butts, and Ronald
Dewyngaert, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Roy
Garno and two sisters, Marie Sample and Marjorie Miller, as well as two younger sisters who died in childhood. Dery Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
