Obituary for William John Ellsworth

William John Ellsworth, 54, of Sterling, Virginia, formerly of Pittsfield, died
Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.
Born in Pittsfield on October 25, 1958, a son of Elmer and Mary Londergan
Ellsworth, he was a 1979 graduate of Pittsfield High School where he was on the Golf
team for three years, and was a graduate of University of Alaska.
Mr. Ellsworth enlisted with the United States Air Force in May 1978. He served
as Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician for nine years and ten months and as Crew
Chief for the United States Air Force Thunderbirds team aerial demonstrators. He was
awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force
Achievement Medal, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Good
Conduct Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, and Air Force Longevity Service Award with
One Oak Leaf Cluster. He was medically retired in as a Staff Sergeant in February
1988.
Following his Air Force career, Mr. Ellsworth went to work for Northrup-
Grumman, a defense contractor in the Washington D.C. where he was a Program
Design Engineer for thirteen years.
He was an avid golfer. He made four holes-in-one during his lifetime. He
enjoyed attending major golf tournaments.
He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling.
Mr. Ellsworth leaves his wife, the former Linda S. Precopio, whom he married
August 15, 1987.
He is also survived by three brothers, Charles Ellsworth, James Ellsworth, and
Peter Ellsworth, all of Pittsfield, and a sister, Susan Passmore, of Turners Falls, Mass.,
and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Eugene Ellsworth, and two sisters, Ellen Ells-
worth and Margaret Wilcox.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for William J. Ellsworth will be held Thursday, April 11, at
11:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Sigmund Sadzinski officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will
precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital, both in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
