William David Carty, 86, of Dalton, MA, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He joins his two sons the late David W. Carty and Peter J. Carty. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet (Galvin), two daughters, Jean Stanford of Pittsfield and Elizabeth Yantorno of Stamford, CT.; two sons, Robert Carty of Germantown, WI, and Tim Carty of Charlton, MA.; a brother, John Carty of Sunnyvale, CA.; a sister, Patricia Foley of Reading, Mass.; and twelve grandchildren.
Born in Springfield, MA on February 24, 1931, the son of John P. and Nora Walsh Carty, he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Textile Engineering from Lowell Technical Institute and a Master’s Degree in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Bill spent his career in the pulp and paper industry working for several different companies culminating as the Vice President – Marketing for Beloit-Jones in Dalton, MA.
He proudly served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade on the USS Barton (DD-722), honorably discharged in June 1957.
Bill was a Eucharistic minister of St. Agnes Church, where he taught CCD for many years.
He enjoyed military history, reading, playing golf, and was an avid Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan.



FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for William D. Carty will be held Monday, July 24, 2017 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta,
Pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made
