Obituary for Werner A. Wohrle

Werner A. Wohrle, 85, of Cheshire passed away on November 6, 2016 at Craneville Place of Dalton where he resided for the past seven years. Born on October 5, 1931 in Freiberg, Germany he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary Wohrle Eslinger. He was educated in schools in Germany where he graduated from high school. He also took cabinet making courses while in high school. While in Germany he was employed in the German Postal Service. He emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1952 to live with his aunt and uncle, John and Anna Wohrle from whom he learned the butcher and meat cutting trade. From 1968 to 1978 he owned and operated the former Green Acres Fireside Restaurant with his wife Claire and Lakeview Restaurant with his good friend John Lisee. From 1978 to 1988 he worked as a logger, excavator and septic system installer. Werner had also been employed as a butcher and meat cutter at Harry's Supermarket from 1988 to 1998. He retired in 1998 after working as a butcher for over thirty years. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and a member of the Cheshire Lions Club. He was also a member of the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriffs Association and the Greylock Ski Club. For many years he sponsored various youth league sports teams through his restaurants. He enjoyed skiing, horseback riding, bowling, and water skiing. His greatest joy was being with family and friends for get together's and helping his friends in any way he could. He leaves his wife, Claire Bushika Wohrle of Cheshire whom he married on August 26, 1961 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire. A daughter; Ellen M. Wohrle and her fiancé; Daniel Matrigali of Adams. A son; John M. Wohrle and his wife Michelle of Cheshire. Three grandchildren; Joseph Senecal, Kelsey Wohrle and Maggie Wohrle as well as a great grandson; Jeremy Zepka. His brother-in-law; George Bushika and his wife Joan as well as his sister-in-law; Mary Woolley and her friend Joe Livecchi. He also leaves many cousins including: Nancy Wohrle Hines, Barbara Wohrle Pickwell and Beverly Wohrle and many nieces, nephews, close friends and relatives. The Wohrle family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Craneville Place of Dalton for their loving and compassionate care of Werner during his time there.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Werner A. Wohrle, 85, of Cheshire who passed away on November 6, 2016 will be held Friday at 12 Noon at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire celebrated by the Rev. Matthew Guidi, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory Werner may be made to Friends of Renal Dialysis at BMC or to St. Mary of the Assumption Church both in care of the funeral home; North State Road, Cheshire, MA 01225.
