Obituary for Wayne D. Hedding

Wayne D. Hedding of Pittsfield passed away on August 5, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Bennington, VT on August 6, 1949, he was the son of the late Earl and Joyce Hedding of North Bennington.

He received his early education in North Bennington and was a member of the first graduating class of Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington in 1967, and a graduate of Johnson State College in Johnson, VT, in 1972.

He married the former Carol Homich on April 23, 1983 at Hope Church in Lenox, MA.

After settling in Pittsfield, Wayne held a variety of jobs including driving bus for the BRTA and Pittsfield Schools. He especially enjoyed working unique charter runs, including driving the Hemmings Motor News double-decker bus for their annual open house in Bennington. His life’s passion was in the audio/visual field, specifically films. For several years he worked as a projectionist at the Capitol Theatre and the Sunset Drive-In. He was also a volunteer for Pittsfield Community Television where he produced programs and operated cameras for Pittsfield’s Fourth of July parade. In 2016 he received a “Cassie,” a Cable Access Award for excellence in TV production.

Wayne was a former member of the North Bennington Fire Department, and a devoted member of Pittsfield’s Christian Assembly Church, where he had served as both a board member and church treasurer. He loved listening to music, going to the movies, trains (model and life-size), his yearly visit to the Big E, regional travel, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carol, a sister, Beverly Hedding of Castleton, NY, several cousins, and his cat, Baby. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Carlene Hedding.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Wayne’s Christian Assembly family for their tireless devotion and assistance both before and after his passing.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christian Assembly Church or the North Bennington Fire Department through the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield.

A service celebrating the life of Wayne Hedding will be held at a later date.
