Walter Richard Kacensky, 85, of 5 Wren Street, Pittsfield, died Monday, January, 7, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on June 12, 1927, the son of William and Rose Urewicy Kacensky, he was a 1945 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He served with the United States Navy during World War II.
Mr. Kacensky was employed by General Electric Company. He began his career
with the plant as a guard and fire inspector. He was later appointed Fire Lieutenant in the
Relations and Utilities Plant Protection Unit. As Fire Lieutenant, he was responsible for
fire prevention and firefighting programs at both the Woodlawn Avenue and Plastics
plants for many years. He also supervised the plants' lock and key system. Mr.
Kacensky retired in 1987 with 37 years service.
Following his retirement, Mr. Kacensky drove for the Cataract and Lazer Center
in Adams. He and his wife also owned and operated C&W Vending Company for many
years.
Mr. Kacensky was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
He was a member of the G.E. Pensioners, G.E.A.A., and American Legion. He
was a loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan, and in his younger years, enjoyed golf. He also
enjoyed reading, movies, and do-it-yourself projects of all kinds.
Mr. Kacensky leaves his wife, the former Caroline F. Heilner, whom he married
September 3, 1949, in St. Charles Church.
He is also survived by two sons, William W. Kacensky and his wife, Zhun Zhun,
of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Thomas L. Kacensky, Sr., of Smithfield, Virginia; six grand-
children, Shannon (David) Vrooman, Karisa (Jeremy) Capone, Jesse Kacensky, Kiara
Kacensky, Cerise Kacensky, and Thomas L. Kacensky, Jr., several great grandchildren,
and nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Walter R. Kacensky will be held Saturday, January 12, at
8:l5 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00
a.m., at St. Joseph Church celebrated by Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor.
Entombment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph's
Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Kacensky may be made to Friends of
Renal Dialysis in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
