Obituary for Walter E. Daly

Walter E. Daly, Jr., 85, of East St, Lenox, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Pittsfield on May 9, 1936, the eldest son of Walter E. and Julia Talice Daly, he attended Pittsfield Public Schools and was a 1954 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He joined the United States Air Force after high school and was stationed at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, FL until his honorable discharge in 1958.

Upon returning to the Berkshires, Mr. Daly spent several years as the head of maintenance at Berkshire Country Day School in Stockbridge, followed by working in heavy machinery installation at the former Clark Aiken Co. in Lee. He then worked as the maintenance supervisor at Morgan Manor in Lenox until his retirement, at which point he established Berkshire Woodworking in Lenox; he specialized in building custom furniture and continued in this venture for several decades.

In addition to his love for woodworking, Mr. Daly was also a Harley Davidson enthusiast. He spent many winters in Florida with his wife, enjoying the warmer weather which allowed him to ride his motorcycle year-round. He was known for the attention to detail with which he cared for his workshop, his truck, and his Harley.

Walter Daly was predeceased by his parents; his brother Robert; and his wife, Rosemary Trzepacz Daly, whom he married June 28, 1974.

He leaves behind his daughter Chris (husband Joseph) Young of Nashville, TN, and son Frank Daly of Dalton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Susan Chalifoux of Pittsfield; brother Donald J. Daly of Pittsfield; niece Laureen Daly of Milford; nephew Donald R. Daly of Pittsfield, and many great-nieces and nephews. Walter will be remembered for his infectious laugh and sly sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

At Walter’s request, there will be no funeral services.
