Obituary for Walter F. Conant

WALTER FREDERICK CONANT, JR., 76, of 46 Caroline Street, Pittsfield, died
Thursday morning at his home after a long illness. Born in Pittsfield, August 21, 1931, the son of Walter F. Conant, Sr., and Dora T.
Brazeau Conant, he was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He served in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Albany, during the
Korean War. In October 1954, Mr. Conant went to work for Western Massachusetts Electric
Company where he was employed as a line supervisor. He retired in 1990 with thirty
seven years service. After his retirement, he owned and operated a landscaping business.
He was a communicant of St. Mark Church. He was a member of the Dalton
American Legion Post 155. He was past Cub Scout Master of Pack l8 and was active
in the 4-H. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and meeting people at the farmers market
in Pittsfield, and was an avid fan of the New England Patriots.Mr. Conant leaves his wife, the former Rosemary A. Jandro, whom he married
September 25, 1954.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons, James B. Conant of Pittsfield,
Daniel J. Conant, and Matthew E. Conant, all of Pittsfield, and Timothy W. Conant
and Thomas J. Conant of Peru; a daughter, Kathleen T. Keegan; a sister, Joanne C.
Sabato of Pittsfield; ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for WALTER FREDERICK CONANT, JR., who
passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 11, will be Monday, October 15,
at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark Church, celebrated by Rev. John C. Salatino, Pastor. Burial
will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Dalton. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 4:00 to
7:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of
Mr. Conant may be made to the Boys and Girls Club or to St. Mark Church, both in care
of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Mr. Conant is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Lynn A. (Mrs. James), Kelly
(Mrs. Timothy), and Maureen P. (Mrs. Matthew), his son-in-law, Robert, and ten
grandchildren, Shaun and Melissa Keegan, Wayne Philips, Bryan, Kimberly, and
Joshua Conant, and Daniel, Jr., Alexa, Connor, and Nathan Conant; and his two great
grandchildren, Jack Keegan and Kaloise Philips.
