Obituary for Walter J. Card

WALTER JOSEPH CARD, 72, a resident of 600 Main Street, Dalton, since
1985, formerly of Oxnard, California, died Wednesday, March 12, at Berkshire
Medical Center. Born in Hinsdale, October 28, 1935, a son of Kenneth F. Card, Sr. and Mary
Proctor Card, he was educated in Hinsdale and Dalton schools and was a graduate of
the former Dalton High School.
He entered the United States Marine Corps in February 1953, was appointed a
Corporal in May 1955, and was discharged in February 1956. While serving in Korea,
he was a member of the "Frozen Chosen".
A toolmaker by trade, Mr. Card was employed by Vetco Off Shore Drilling in
Ventura, California, for twenty years retiring in August 1985. Prior to that, he worked
for Abex Machine Company in Oxnard, California for many years. He had a great devotion to the Marine Corps, and was a member of the Dalton American Legion and a lifetime member of the Dalton Veterans of Foreign Wars. He
enjoyed fishing. Mr. Card is survived by five sons, Kevin Honiker of Becket, Keith E. Card of
Pittsfield, Kurt P. Card of Dalton, Koury E. Card of Stafford Springs, Connecticut, and
Kenneth F. Card, III, of Hinsdale; a brother, Joseph Card of Richlands, North Carolina;
eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and his former wife, Nancy C. Card
of Grafton, North Dakota. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Edward J. Card and
Kenneth F. Card, Jr., and a sister, Betty Strout.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for WALTER JOSEPH CARD will be held Monday, March 17,
at 11:00 a.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. William D. Furey, Pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Card may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
