Obituary for Vincent P. Donovan

VINCENT PAUL DONOVAN, 84, of 150 Kirchner Road, Dalton, died Friday, August 7, at Berkshire Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Born in Adams, July 22, 1925, the son of Vincent F. and Evannah L. O'Brien
Donovan, he attended St. Charles School, and was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School. He later attended Massachusetts State College where he majored in English.
He served in the United States Army as a Private First Class in the 13th Coast
Artillery for two years during World War II.
After his military service, Mr. Donovan went to work as a lineman for the
Railroad. Shortly thereafter, he became a lineman for New England Telephone and
Telegraph Company, where he worked until his retirement as an engineer in 1984 with 34 years of service.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
He was a member of the Wahconah Country Club, where he played golf as frequently as his health permitted or just gathered there with friends.
Mr. Donovan was one of the founders of the original Dalton Youth Hockey
Club in the late 1970s.
He served on the Dalton Conservation Commission for many years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as gardening.
He was also a woodworking craftsman. He was a Boston Red Sox fan.
Mr. Donovan leaves his wife, the former Andree L. Bonin, whom he married
August 4, 1956, at St. Pius X Church in Quebec City, Canada. Besides his wife, Mr. Donovan is survived by three sons, Mark V. Donovan and
his wife, Terry, of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew P. Donovan and his wife, Jennifer, of
Greenville, South Carolina, and Michael F. Donovan and his wife, Dana, of
Kennsington, New Hampshire; two daughters, Michelle A. Brown and her husband,
Kevin, of Suffolk, Virginia; and Mary Lee Donovan of Littleton, Massachusetts; thirteen
grandchildren, Kevin Donovan and Shaun Donovan, Matthew Brown, Elizabeth Brown,
Nathaniel Brown, Hannah Brown, Abigail Brown, and Timothy Brown, Molly Donovan,
Nathaniel Santoro, Peter Donovan, McKenna Donovan, and Gabrielle Donovan.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Mary Dolorita "Do" Bonin, who died in
1974. Mr. Donovan was a faithful husband, a proud father, a devoted and beloved
grandfather, a trusted friend, a welcoming host, a man full of life and laughter. He
leaves his family and friends rich with joyful memories, a vault of stories and tall
tales, and a deep appreciation for what it means for a man to live life to its fullest.
He will be missed tremendously.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for VINCENT PAUL DONOVAN, who died Friday, August
7, will be Tuesday, August 11, at 10:15 am. from DERY FUNERAL HOME in
Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m, at Sacred Heart Church
celebrated by Rev. James K. Joyce, Pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery in
Dalton. Calling hours will be Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL
HOME in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Donovan may be
