Obituary for Thomas "Tom" Maxwell

Thomas “Tom” Maxwell, 73, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at home, after a year & a half battle with cancer. He was born on September 20, 1948, son of the late Tonas & Amelia (Poplar) Maxwell.

Tom was a 1966 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School, where he was a member of the golf team all 4 years. After attending BCC for a short time, he went on to work as a technician & quality assurance specialist for General Electric, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring in 1999.

He was a longtime member of the G.E.A.A. in Pittsfield & won numerous golf tournaments in Berkshire County over the years.

Tom loved being a family man & took great pride in raising his 2 daughters. In his spare time, he was usually working on home projects like building & landscaping, but always found time to tinker with his golf clubs & strum a little John Denver on his acoustic guitar. He loved the woods, the fall season & enjoyed hunting & fishing since he was a teenager. He also liked sunny day bike rides, and getaways to Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach & Lake George. Forever young at heart, Tom always loved the occasional night out dancing to some good ol’ rock & roll.

Even into his later years, golf was his passion; he was always willing to help others improve their game and share his knowledge & love for the sport. His idea of a perfect Saturday was estate sale hunting for golf clubs to refurbish, going for ice cream & doing a little putting practice with his partner Tina. During the last few months of his illness, Tom even made sure to complete a small set of “1st clubs” for his beloved 3 year old grandson Leo.

He is survived by his daughters: Jennifer Maxwell of Lenox, Kimberly Maxwell & grandson Leo Ruhlen of Kaneohe, HI; his life partner Tina Schepp of Pittsfield, sister Shirley Bruno of Pittsfield & former wife Millie Maxwell of Lenox. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Robert Bruno Sr.
The family would like to extend their gratitude & appreciation to Dr. Ahmad & the Berkshire Oncology staff, and Hospice Care of The Berkshires for all of their care & compassion during Tom’s journey. A heartfelt thank you to his loving partner, Tina, who was his angel by his side throughout it all.

A private Celebration of Life is set to be held on Tuesday September 20th, 2022, on what would have been Tom’s 74th birthday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Mass Golf Youth Fund. Donations will support their First Tee program. They may be mailed to Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201. You may also make donations through, https://www.massgolf.org/donate/
