Obituary for Thomas J. Savery

Thomas James Savery, 66, of Pittsfield, MA passed away peacefully in his home on February 24, 2023, after a courageous 6-year battle with cancer.

He was one of four sons born to Joseph and Florence Savery, of Lee, MA. After graduating from Lee High School, Tom went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Salem State University. Tom spent much of his career working for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services but went on to teach 6th grade at St. Mark School and English at Taconic High School.

A loving husband to his wife of 36 years, Jayne, and doting father to his children Thaddeus and Alexis, Tom was the consummate family man—always working on the house, cooking, and doing everything he could to care for his family. Tom was happiest when hosting big parties with extended family and friends, especially around the family swimming pool—always cooking, tending bar, and filling the air with his jovial spirit.

Tom enjoyed golfing, playing cards, James Bond, and especially the occasional Grey Goose dirty martini.

His kindness, and his gentle personality were infectious, and he was loved by all. Tom is survived by his wife Jayne; his children Thaddeus and Alexis; daughter-in-law Mary; grandson George; his mother Florence; and brothers Michael and Matthew.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Joseph C. Savery, and his brother, Joseph A. (Jay) Savery.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield. Calling hours will precede the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tom’s honor to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
