Obituary for Thomas J. Mathews

Thomas J. Mathews, 76, of 113 Pleasant Street, Dalton, a longtime resident of
Dalton, died Monday, November 5, 2012, at the home of his daughter, Mary Ann, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Pittsfield, on July 21, 1936, a son of the late Francis and Mary E. Naughton Mathews, he was educated in Hinsdale schools and was a 1954 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School in Pittsfield.
He enlisted with the United States Navy on August 30, 1957, served aboard the
USS Cassion Young, and was honorably discharged on October 21, 1959.
An electrician by trade, Mr. Mathews was the owner-operator of Kev Ric Electric
Company in Dalton for more than 50 years retiring in 2009. A hard worker, he took great joy in working. He also enjoyed listening to Polka music and was a longtime Red Sox fan.
Tom had a big heart and will be greatly missed by his family and friends,
especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were very special to him.
He also was very proud of our troops serving in the military and he organized a care-package drive for the troops, gathering donations of hygiene
supplies and other items. He also purchased hundreds and hundreds of movie videos to be distributed to our troops.
He leaves a son, Kevin Mathews of Hinsdale; a daughter, Mary Ann Mathews of Dalton;
two grandchildren, Morgan Kubli and her husband, Ryan, of Pittsfield, and Anthony
Mathews of Hinsdale; two great grandchildren, Makenna Kubli and Mason Kubli; as well as six nieces, a nephew, and his sister-in-law, Joanie Mathews of Davies, Florida. Mr. Mathews is also survived by his former wife, Darlene Chilson Slater of Dotham,
Alabama; He was pre-deceased by a son, Thomas Richard Mathews, who died June 21, 2001, and a brother, Francis Mathews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Thomas Joseph Mathews will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. Christopher A.
Malatesta, Pastor. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling
hours will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Mr. Mathews may be made to St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
