Obituary for Thomas G. Lareau

Thomas G. Lareau, 72, of 555 Williams Street, Pittsfield, died Sunday, November
11, 2012, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leeds, Northampton, MA after a
long illness. He was born in Faribault, Minnesota, on November 6, 1940, the son of the
late Elwood and Audrey Neva Geike Lareau; he was a graduate of Zumbrota High School
in Zumbrota, Minneapolis.
A highly-decorated Viet Nam Army veteran, he served from February 13, 1957
until June 13, 1975. Among his many commendations and medals including the
Republic of Vietnam medals, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Mr. Lareau spent the majority of his career in the Army and upon retirement
worked in non-destructive testing. He was employed by General Electric
in Lynn and in Pittsfield for fifteen to twenty years until 1998. During the early-1990s,
he worked for Azdel Plastics in Detroit, Michigan. He returned to Pittsfield in 2000.
He was active in the Masonic Lodges in Texas and Minnesota; and was a 32nd
Degree Mason.
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 65 in Pittsfield,
The American Legion in Dalton, and a the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pittsfield.
Mr. Lareau leaves his wife, the former Khuong Ho Thi, whom he married in 1961.
Besides his wife, Mr. Lareau is survived by three daughters: Suzanne Olson and
her husband, Barry, Sr., of Seattle, WA; Monique Wood and her husband, Bruce,
Sr., of East Nassau, NY and Susan Lareau of Pittsfield; two sons: Michane Lareau
and his wife, Marianne, of Haynesville, IL; and David Lareau of Pittsfield; three
sisters: Elizabeth Smith, Rochelle Hawkins, and Rozarre Sommerfield, all of MN;
as well as ten grandchildren: Erik and Laura Olson; Jason, Hailey, Ashley, and Joshua
Lareau, Jamie, Tawnee and Bruce Jr. Wood; and Michael Krutiak, and a great grand-
daughter, Gemma Olson.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Tony Lareau and by his stepfather, Newell
Aaker.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Thomas G. Lareau will be held Thursday, November 15, at
11:00 a.m., at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Timothy Weisman, Pastor,
officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours
will be Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Masonic service to follow at
DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Lareau
may be made to Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the VietNam Veterans Chapter
65, both in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
