Obituary for Thomas J. Lange

Thomas J. "Todd" Lange, 60, of Pinegrove Dr. died at his home on Friday, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle from an illness contracted in the line of duty as a Pittsfield firefighter. He was born in Pittsfield on February 14, 1951, a son of Alcide J. and Anne E. Maloney Lange of Pittsfield. He grew up in Dalton, graduating from St. Agnes School and then from St. Joseph High School with the class of 1968. Following graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp and served four years including one year in Vietnam during the height of that war in 1969 and 1970. Upon his discharge he joined the Pittsfield Fire Department where he proudly served the City of Pittsfield as a firefighter for thirty-two years, retiring June 25, 2006 as a fire inspector with the fire departments Fire Prevention Bureau. He was also a graduate of Berkshire Community College where he earned a degree in Fire Science. Todd was passionate about his family. He and his wife Pam, were always very involved with their two sons and their sporting events, and the "loves of his life", his two granddaughters. He was an avid Red Sox and New York Giants fan. He was also a member of the Pittsfield Permanent Firemen's Benefit Association and the International Association of Firefighters Union Local #2647. Todd was also a member of the Wahconah Country Club where he was actively involved for many years with the Brown Jug tournaments. He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, the former Pamela A. LaVallee; his sons, Patrick J. Lange and his wife Melissa of Dedham and Todd M. Lange of Walpole, MA. His brother, Mark A. Lange and his wife Debra of Pittsfield; two sisters, Patricia A. Wahlberg and her husband John of Tolland, CT and Elizabeth A. Seekins and her husband Dennis of Norton, MA. He also leaves his two granddaughters; Maren Grace and Emery Kate Lange of Dedham. He was predeceased by his brother, Brian G. Lange who died July 31, 2009. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Notice: Funeral services with full Fire Dept. honors for Thomas J. "Todd" Lange, 60, of Pittsfield who died May 20, 2011 will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at St. Mark Church with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. John Salatino, pastor. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held today, Sunday, from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorial donations in memory of Todd may be made to the Pittsfield Permanent Firemen's Benefit Association in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
