Obituary for Thomas E. Keefe Jr.

Thomas E. Keefe Jr., 87, of 17 Beech Grove Avenue in Pittsfield died Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Berkshire Medical Center with his loving family by his side. A lifelong Pittsfield resident, he was born in Pittsfield on May 28, 1928, the son of the late Thomas E. Keefe Sr. and the late Elsie Umbs Keefe. He was educated in Pittsfield schools and proudly served his country during World War II as a Corporal with the United States Army-Air Force. He married his wife, the late Helen Rahilly Keefe on September 9, 1950 in Pittsfield. She died on June 29, 2013. Mr. Keefe was employed as an automobile mechanic and transmission specialist for over sixty years. He had worked for the late Alec Hull in the 1940's and operated his own shop in the 1960's. He had also worked for area garages and AAMCO Transmission. He retired in 1985. Tom was a life member of the Pittsfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #448 and a past president of the Crossroads Men's Club. He enjoyed oil painting, and could fix anything. He was devoted to his wife and family and took great pride in the loving care he gave his wife Helen during her seven year battle with Alzheimer's disease. He leaves two daughters; Susan A. Keefe of Pittsfield and Deborah J. Williams and her husband John of Pittsfield. Two sons; Thomas E. Keefe III and his wife Jan of Pittsfield and Michael R. Keefe of Pittsfield.
He also leaves a brother; Melvin E. Keefe and his wife Rita of Pittsfield and a sister; Lois H. Goodeau of Pittsfield. Five grandchildren; Jason M. Williams, John Williams Jr., Jenna Williams, Courtney Keefe and Ryan Keefe and a great grandson; Lucas Bertolozzi. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law; Jennifer S. Keefe and by two sisters; Audrey E. Hoffman and Shirley T. Carmel. He was also predeceased by four brothers, Richard P., John P., Laverne U., and Robert K. Keefe.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Thomas E. Keefe Jr. of Pittsfield who died January 10, 2016 will be held Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert Rennie, chaplain at Hospice Care in the Berkshires. Burial with military honors will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held today, Tuesday, from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Keefe may be made to Moments House in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
