What can we say about the fun-loving, smiling, always impeccably dressed, animal print loving, whiskey cake baking, margarita favoring, lady with the great hats?
Many a stranger would stop Teresa on the street, in stores or in church to compliment her hats.
Teresa Caccamo Mole, 96, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2023.
Born in Siderno, Calabria, Italy on June 2, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Maria Fufuro Caccamo.
Our mother came to the United States at a young age, embracing all things American and was educated in local schools, graduating from Pittsfield High School.
As a teenager her first job was selling tickets at the Capitol Theater where she first encountered her shy and reserved future husband. She and Charles James Mole were married on May 7, 1949. He predeceased her in 2020.
Teresa worked from the time her daughters were very young and was fortunate to have the help of her mother to care for them.
She was a valued employee at the former Metropolitan Life and Berkshire Life Insurance companies. She worked at Berkshire Gas and Petricca Industries as a keypunch operator in the earliest days of computers.
She then went on to work at General Electric until her retirement. Teresa was blessed with a long and healthy retirement in which she and Charlie traveled extensively, especially to visit Charlie’s family in Georgia, and the many adventures they launched from there. She also especially loved the hundreds of excursions to New York City, attending operas, theater, lots of shopping and wonderful dinners.
Probably her most significant trip was to return to Italy to be reunited with her now aged family still living in her childhood home. She had not been back since coming to the U.S. 58 years earlier. On this trip Teresa also visited the ancestral village of her husband's family, as well as traveling throughout the entire country.
Teresa loved children and she and her soulmate Charlie enjoyed many years of babysitting for their two cherished granddaughters and attending all of their school and sporting events, many vacations in Cape Cod and Disneyworld.
Teresa also enjoyed playing golf and bowling. She was a favorite participant in many leagues of both sports well into her 80s until her failing eyesight made it too difficult.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and had been a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Barry (John A.) of Pittsfield and Linda Supranowicz (Stephen) of Pittsfield; her grandchildren Caroline Bruckel (Justin), and Erin Barry.
Teresa was the last of her siblings, Dominic, Rose (Agostino), Alfred, and their spouses to pass. She is survived by their children, her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly (especially favorite Bruce).
Teresa also leaves sister-in-law Rose Marie Thornton (Tom), brothers-in-law Robert Mole (Sue) and Joseph Penna (Marsha) and their families; cousins and many, many dear friends. Happily, Teresa was able to visit with everyone at a family reunion this summer.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers from At Home Berkshire Place, especially Lisa and Ennis, HospiceCare in the Berkshires, and especially Charlie’s cousin Kathy Sinopoli who was a comfort and joy to Teresa and her family in her final days.
