Obituary for Sylvia M. Davis

Sylvia M. Davis, 79, of 10 Francis Avenue died Friday at home.
Born on August 14, 1934 in Pittsfield, she was the daughter of the late James R. Scales Sr. and the late Vera Grant Scales. A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, she was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1952 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was employed as an assembler for many years at Milton Bradley in Agawam. She retired in 1985. Mrs. Davis was a member of Price Memorial AME Zion Church where she served as a deaconess, choir member and choir director. She was also a member of the Elks Club and Eastern Star. She enjoyed bingo and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She leaves three sons: Michael A. Banks and his wife Erika of Austin, TX, David A. Davis and his daughter Leslee Davis of Pittsfield and William L. Davis also of Pittsfield. Two brothers; Lowell Scales and Robert Scales Sr. and his wife Sharon all of Pittsfield. Seven sisters; Lorraine Wade of Medford, MA, Hazel Scales of Pittsfield, Kitty Mae Burston of Springfield, Bobbie Scales of Pittsfield, Arlene Scales of Pittsfield, Bernice Scales of Springfield and Denise Scales of Agawam. She also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as Michelle Jackson, Sarah Richards, Debbie Jacobs and Rodney Gittens. She was predeceased by her former husband; the late Willie Davis and by three brothers; James R. Scales Jr., Gordon E. Scales Sr., and Frederick Scales.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Sylvia M. Davis of Pittsfield who died May 2, 2014 will be held Wednesday at 6 PM at Price Memorial AME Zion Church in Pittsfield. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 6 PM at Price Memorial AME Zion Church. Memorial contributions in memory of Sylvia may be made to the American Heart Association in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201 which is handling arrangements.
