Sylvia Ann Bunnell, 83, of 89 Tanner Street, Pittsfield, died Sunday, November 19, 2017,
at her home with her loving family by her side.
Born in Pittsfield on December 27, 1933, the daughter of Frank and Anna Wood Shea, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. After starting her family, Sylvia continued her education graduating from
Berkshire Community College and North Adams State College with honors.
Sylvia had a varied career, working as a drafswoman for General Electric Company, a school teacher, and a realtor for Evergreen Realty. But the career that touched her heart, and the countless lives of others, was her role as Disaster Relief Specialist for the Berkshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross. During her years with the Red Cross, Sylvia helped those in need within her community, as well as those in crisis across the county where disasters had struck. Sylvia volunteered countless hours in places such as the Oklahoma City Bombing, Ground Zero after 9/11, and a number of hurricanes in the U.S., including Hurricane Katrina. Sylvia's compassion and empathy served those well.
Sylvia was quite the artist and oil painter, and she enjoyed gardening and singing.
Her husband, Charles F. Bunnell, died August 5, 2013.
Sylvia is survived by four children, Jim Bunnell (wife Eva Zamora) of
Carlsbad, Calif. Nancy Sacchetti (husband Jay) of Pittsfield, Bob Bunnell and his partner Donna Daly of Pittsfield, and Joe Bunnell of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister, Nancy Nichols of Hanover, N.H.; a brother,
