Obituary for Stephen A. Huska

Stephen A. Huska, 75, former longtime Pittsfield Firefighter, died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on February 16, 1935 in Pittsfield, he was a son of the late Charles and Katherine Osudchuk Huska. A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was 1954 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He later went on to earn his associate's degree in Fire Science form Berkshire Community College. He also served his country with the United States Army. He was employed by the City of Pittsfield as a firefighter for the Pittsfield Fire Department for thirty-seven years. He retired in 1999. He worked for many years at Central Headquarters and at the Holmes Road Fire Station Engine 6. He was also a certified EMT. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. While at Pittsfield High School he was a three sport standout in football, basketball and track. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events and being in the outdoors. He was also an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Patriot's fan. He leaves his wife, the former Mary Monterosso of Pittsfield whom he married on May 12, 1962 at St. Teresa Church in Pittsfield. Two daughters; Michelle M. Kuklewicz and her husband Joseph of Yarmouth, ME and Karen E. Volpe and her husband Alan of Rochester, NH. A son; Stephen A. Huska and his wife Patricia of West Roxbury, MA. A brother; William M. Huska and his wife Florence of Dalton and his sister; Helen Trasatti and her husband John of Dalton. He also leaves his five grandchildren; Jeffrey Kuklewicz, Kyle Volpe, Christopher Volpe, Tommy Huska and Kathleen Huska as well as his niece and her husband; Florence and James Keefner who kindly assisted Steve with his little chores that needed to be done. He also leaves many nieces and nephews with whom he especially loved spending time with at the many Huska family reunions. He was predeceased by a brother; the late John Huska and by five sisters; the late Nancy Palmer, Dorothy Arpante, Mary Vadala, Anna Lynch and Jessie LaMarche.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services with Fire Department honors for Stephen A. Huska who died June 20, 2010 will be held Wednesday at 8:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph Church celebrated by the Rev. Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Huska may be made to the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
