Obituary for Stephen J. Chapman

Stephen James Chapman, 70, of Pittsfield, died Monday, May 26, 2013, at Berkshire Medical
Center after a short illness.
Born in Pittsfield on May 10, 1944, the son of Clarence J. and Dorothy Barney Chapman, he
was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.
He served with the United States Army Reserve from 1961 until 1968.
Mr. Chapman was a member of the Massachusetts Laborers Union 490 and was employed as a laborer in the construction industry for more than thirty years.
He was a Gold Member of the Polish Community Club.
Mr. Chapman's wife, the former Connie Phelps, whom he married August 21, 1991, died
in 2012.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen K. Chapman and his wife Elizabeth of Dalton, and Michael
J. Chapman and his wife, Tina, of the state of Florida; two daughters, Lori A. Chapman of the state of
Florida, and Michelle Jones and her husband, John, of Lanesborough; nine grandchildren; his brother,
David Chapman of North Adams; his sister, Donna Reilly, of New York state; as well as his mother-in-law, Beverly Garrett of Pittsfield; his brother- and sister-in-law, Bruce and Gail McGivern of Pittsfield and his sister- and brother-in-law, Louise and Ronnie Phelps of Vermont.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
A graveside service for Stephen James Chapman will be held Thursday, May 29, at 11:30 a.m.,
at Pittsfield Cemetery (in the Pine Grove section on Onota Street) with Rev. Charles F. Young, a chaplain with HospiceCare in The Berkshires, officiating. There are no calling hours.
The omission of flowers is requested. The family suggests, instead, that memorial contributions be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
