Obituary for Stephen A. "Rook" Bondini

Stephen Anthony "Rook" Bondini, 83, of 138 Main Street, Cheshire, died Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Craneville Place of Dalton.
Born in Cheshire on October 1, 1932, a son of Dominic and Christina Graziani Bondini,
he was educated in Cheshire and Adams schools.
A Korean War veteran, Mr. Bondini was inducted into the United States Army on
January 15, 1953 and served until suffering a medical disability for which he was honorably
discharged on August 17, 1953.
Mr. Bondini was employed by ALADCO where he was manager of the Dry Cleaning
Department. He retired in 1991 with 43 years service.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church and was a member of the
Cheshire Rod and Gun Club. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, enjoyed hunting and
fishing, and was a New York Yankees fan.
A lover of all sports, Mr. Bondini had been a dedicated coach and fan. He played and coached baseball on the Cheshire Town team in the 1950s and 60s. He also played semi-pro
basketball with Turn Hall, Kosta's, Unis Grill, and Western Gateway. Mr. Bondini started coaching baseball with Farm League, then went to Little League, moved onto Babe Ruth, and the Cheshire Cal Ripken League. He also coached in the Cheshire football league for many years, as well as helped run the Cheshire Lions Club snowmobile races. In 2006, the Hurricane Booster Program was dedicated to him.
Mr. Bondini leaves his wife, the former Patricia A. LeClaire, whom he married September 6, 1954, in St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire.
Mr. Bondini is also survived by two sons, Stephen A. Bondini, Jr., and his wife, Linda, of Bowie, Maryland, and Robert B. Bondini and his wife, Brenda, of Windsor; two daughters, Julie A. Krutiak and her husband, Eric, of Savoy, and Jill M. Shade and her husband, Kenneth, of
Cheshire; a sister, Joan A. Massaconi and her husband, Charles, of Cheshire; nine grandchildren,
Heather, Nathan, Stephanie, Joshua, Patrick, Tyler, Joy, Serena, and Zackery; and five great
Grandchildren, Austin, Kylie, Alden, Devin, and Natalie.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Alfred Bondini and Albert Bondini and by a sister,
Antoinette Bondini.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Stephen Anthony Bondini will be held Saturday, December 19,
With a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Paul Charity
Center (P.O. Box 231, Adams, 01220) or to St. Mary of the Assumption Church in care of
