Obituary for Sophia A. Kinnas

Sophia A. Kinnas, 94, formerly of Robert Street, Pittsfield, died Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the home of her daughter in Cheshire where she had resided since June 2010.
Born in Pittsfield on June 11, 1921, the daughter of John J. and Katherine Albrycht Gorney, she was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended the Marcel Academy of Beauty Culture.
A World War II veteran, she first served with the Women's Army Air Corps from March to August 1943. She then entered active duty with the United States Army on September 1, 1943, and served as Technician 4th Grade until being honorably discharged on November 7, 1945.
From 1961 until 1983, Mrs. Kinnas was employed as a machine operator by A.H. Rice.
She had previously been employed by General Electric Company as an inspector for nine years.
Mrs. Kinnas had been a communicant of Holy Family Church where she was a member
of the Rosary Sodality and served as a past president of the Mother's Guild.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and reading, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband, Stephen Kinnas, whom she married September 4, 1948, in Holy Family
Church, died January 31, 2004.
Mrs. Kinnas is survived by a son, Richard S. Kinnas, of Hinsdale, a daughter, Kathy Goebel and her husband, Robert, of Cheshire, with whom she made her home; eight grand-
Children and four great grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Ropelewski of Pittsfield.
She was pre-deceased by two sons, Stephen M. Kinnas and Peter S. Kinnas; three
brothers, Walter J. Gorney, Stanley Gorney, and Benjamin Gorney; and three sisters, Bernice
Gorney, Josephine Dubis, and Helen R. Piekos.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Sophie A. Kinnas will be held Friday, September 4, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire celebrated by Rev. David R. Raymond, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours will be Friday, from 9:30am – 10:30am at the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121
North State Road, Cheshire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire.
