Obituary for Shirley J. Viani

Mrs. Shirley J. Viani, 72, of 107 B Highview Dr. Pittsfield died Saturday at Providence Care Center in Lenox where she had resided since June. Born on July 14, 1934 in Gt. Barrington, MA she was the daughter of the late Edmond and Dorothy May Teot. She had resided at Colonial Gardens since 2001 and prior to that had resided in Dalton. She was educated in Gt. Barrington schools and was a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Pittsfield. A homemaker, she had worked in the 1960's at the former Berkshire Coat Factory and in the 1970's at the Adult Learning Center. For the past few years she had also worked at Groom's Choice and Bridal Gallery which her granddaughter owned and operated. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She enjoyed traveling in her motor home, bowling, crafts, bird watching and reading. She was also a member of the Candle Lanes Bowling League and a fan of the New York Yankees. She leaves her husband, David P. Viani of Pittsfield whom she married on April 25, 1980 at St. Joseph's Church. A daughter, Jean M. Drum of Dalton and a son, Robert E. Schnopp also of Dalton. She also leaves four stepsons; Michael and Paul Viani both of Concord, NH, Roger Viani of Vienna, Virginia and Bruce Viani of Burlington, VT. 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a daughter, the late Joan Frances Schnopp who died November 17, 1980 and by a sister, the late Carol Lewis who died April 5, 2007.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Shirley J. Viani, 72, of Pittsfield who died July 7, 2007 will be held Wednesday at 8:15 AM from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Dery Funeral Home. Shirley also leaves her aunt, Sister Mary Dorothy, SSJ and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a great grandson, the late Donald Sweener III. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Sister's of St. Joseph both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
