Obituary for Senta P. Brodeur

Senta P. Brodeur, 70 of 101 Unkamet Park Drive, Pittsfield, Ma died Friday, February 26, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center after a long courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Pittsfield on August 6, 1950, daughter of Amelia Lennon and Robert Lennon. Senta was a 1968 graduate of Pittsfield High School. In January of 1968 Senta eloped to Charleston, South Carolina to marry her husband, Cliff Brodeur, whom she met at the New England Square Dance Convention at the YMCA in Pittsfield, MA.

Senta spent most of her early married life travelling with her husband and three girls up and down the East Coast while Cliff called square dances. Throughout her life she was always by Cliff’s side as she was the planner and bookkeeper for a major festival and square dance weekends. Senta was known throughout many schools and overnight camps in the Berkshires and Northeast as she organized thousands of students, campers and counselors into circles of eight and helped her husband teach dancing, especially square dancing. Senta loved square dancing and danced with the Pittsfield Squares for over 40 years. She and her husband Cliff thoroughly enjoyed working with their band Square One.

Senta worked for the City of Pittsfield driving school bus for several years. She loved her children and teenagers that rode her bus and would make candy cane reindeer for them during the holidays. Senta was also a make-up artist for several years and had the pleasure of assisting a county music star at Hunter Mountain, a country music festival in NY.

Senta loved to walk and often people referred to her and her husband as the walkers of Pittsfield. She loved dancing, hiking, cross country skiing, making crafts for her family, swimming at local lakes and attending folk music performances throughout the Berkshires. Senta was always there for her daughters and grandchildren as she attended dance recitals, sports games, swim meets and school concerts. Senta’s passion was her family and grandchildren.

During Senta’s final days she found comfort in music that her family and Hospice shared with her. Even though she lost the ability to speak, the words of her favorite songs flowed from her lips.

Senta is survived by her loving husband Cliff Brodeur of 53 year, her daughters Renee Smith Of Las Vegas, Alyssa Brodeur and her husband Neil Thomas of Dalton, and Senta L. Brodeur of Dalton,MA. She leaves her three grandchildren Joshua Fuller, Kendall Fuller and Anna Brodeur Morell. She leaves her close family friend, Karen LaVoie and many other loving family and friends. She is also survived by her brother Terrance Lennon of Southfield, MA and Mother in Law, Elizabeth Brodeur of Pittsfield, MA.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the MS Society of the Capital District or HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Due to COVID there will be no public calling hours or funeral. A memorial service and a Celebration of life for friends and family will take place later in 2021.
