Obituary for Sandy Elizabeth Theresa Harvey

Sandra Elizabeth Theresa Harvey, (age 72), entered eternal rest on December 17th, 2021, in Glencliff, New Hampshire.

Sandy was born February 23rd 1949, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to her late parents, William Joseph McAdoo Harvey and Catherine Marie (Coughlin) Harvey. Following graduation from Pittsfield High School, she graduated Nathaniel Hawthorne College in 1977 with a degree in Art and Elementary Education and Keene State College with a Masters in Special education, Administration, and Psychology.

She spent the next ten years sharing her passion for special education across several institutions of higher learning. As the New Hampshire School Administrative director, she managed activities for six school districts supervising and guiding over 30 staff, teachers, and psychologists, speech pathologists, aides and tutors. Following as the Nashoba Valley Technical High School special education coordinator, she managed the activities of seven regional school districts and school boards in academic and vocational settings, ages 9-12.

After spending seven years in school administration, she stepped into a role as superintendent/principal at Mount Hope School in Nashua, NH and served as instructors at Fitchburg State College, and Franklin Pierce College. She declined a full-time teaching position at Notre Dame College after becoming pregnant with her only son James.

Sandy is best known for being a loving mother, sister, caring friend, and ardent follower of Jesus. She was a talented and inventive artist who had a loveably corny sense of humor, made the best “dad jokes” and showed everyone that beauty can be found using simple media like potatoes, string, nails, cheap paint, Crayola markers, and dollar store water color sets.

Sandy is predeceased by her parents William Joseph McAdoo Harvey and Catherine Marie (Coughlin) Harvey, sisters Lenora (Kelliher) Bergeron, Ann (Kelliher) Castagna, and brother in-law Reno Dante Castagna, and half-sister, Jeanette (Harvey) Dupuis, and her half-brother, William Joseph Harvey, Jr. She is survived by her son James and daughter in-law Shirley Mae Weigle, her sister Judith (Dellert) Weldon, brothers’ in-law George Weldon and James Bergeron, her half-sister, Eleanor (Harvey) Penna, as well as her two nieces, Reanne Palmer and Judith Meyer, all of whom have accompanied Sandy and held special places in her heart throughout the seasons of her life.
