Obituary for Ruth E. Myers

Ruth Elizabeth Brand Myers, 88, of Pittsfield, died Thursday, September 5,
2013, at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility attended by her loving family, fellow
residents, and caring staff. Prior to her stay at Mount Greylock, she was a ten-year
resident of Devonshire Estates in Lenox.
Ruth was born in Haverhill, Mass., on July 5, 1925. She was the adopted daughter of the late John and Minnie Robertson Brand of Worcester. She graduated from
Classical High School in Worcester and was employed as a secretary by the Reed Rolled Thread & Dye Co.
Her husband, Harold R. Myers, whom she married April 26, 1952, died in February 1998.
When her family was young, Ruth found joy in traveling, camping, teaching, and
having fun with the Camp Fire Girls group that she led for many years. She was a Berkshire County Chapter American Red Cross volunteer and had been honored for her 40 years of service. She very much enjoyed caring for people who donated at the blood
drives.
Ruth was a 60-year member of the United Methodist Church of Lenox and its pre-
decessor Trinity United Methodist Church of Pittsfield. At church, she was a member of
the Chancel Choir, United Methodist Women, the Altar Guild, the Wednesday Morning
Bible Study, and various committees. She was also a member of Church Women United.
She is survived by two daughters, Laurie Sturma, and her husband, David, of Pittsfield, and Cathy Myers of Savoy; a son, Ross Myers and his wife, Susan, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a grandson, Brandon Sturma and his wife, Rachel; a granddaughter, Allison Sturma; and a great grandson, John David Sturma.
Ruth was predeceased by her brothers, John R. Brand and Ronald S. Brand, as well as her biological brother, Robert Miller, of Ellenville, N.Y.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Ruth Elizabeth Brand Myers will be held Saturday, September 28, at 11:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church of Lenox, 6 Holmes Road,
Lenox with Rev. Janet Deranian, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Pitts-
field Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to the United Methodist Church of Lenox or to the Berkshire County Chapter of the American Red Cross both in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Br
