Obituary for Ruth M. McAVOY

RUTH M. McAVOY, 85, a longtime resident of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, February 24, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Schenectady, New York, April 18, 1923, the daughter of Chester and Mary O'Clair Robertson, she was educated in New York state schools from where
she graduated in 1941.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. McAvoy had at one time worked at A & P
Supermarket and more recently for Shaefer-Eaton for eight years. She retired in 1987.
She was a communicant of the former St. Teresa Church. Mrs. McAvoy was an avid baker who also enjoyed crocheting and doing cross-word puzzles. She also enjoyed following her sons' careers in auto racing and music and watching the Red Sox with her granddaughter, Kate.
Her husband, John M. McAvoy, whom she married in 1952, died March 16, 1983.
Mrs. McAvoy is survived by two sons, Michael D. McAvoy, and his wife, Pat, of
Pittsfield, and William S. "Bill" Kirpens and his wife, Ann, of Richmond; and two grand-
children, Kate McAvoy and Billy Kirpens. She was pre-deceased by three brothers and
her former husband, John A. "Jack" Kirpens, who died in 1994.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for RUTH M. McAVOY, who died Tuesday, February 24, will
be next Saturday, March 7, at 10:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Msgr.
Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor of St. Joseph Church, officiating. Burial will follow in
St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in
memory of Mrs. McAvoy may be made to Berkshire Humane Society in care of the
Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
