Obituary for Rosemary Jean Casey

Rosemary Jean Casey, 81 of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024 at Berkshire Medical Center with her daughter by her side. She was born in Pittsfield on May 28, 1942 to Caesar and Jean Harper Govoni.

Rosemary attended Lenox schools. She was an administrative assistant at Crane & Company for many years.

She wrote in her high school yearbook that her wish was to travel the world. When she married her former husband, Larry Casey, they shared a military life in the United States Air Force. Her dream came true. She traveled the world. While living in Athens, Greece, she planned a three week driving tour through Europe the old-fashioned way; by using maps to chart the tour and letters and phone calls to reserve the accommodations.

All through her travels, Rosemary collected beautiful items that represented the local culture. She had a talent for interior design and always created a beautiful home with her collectibles. Rosemary also had a funny, quirky passion for gadgets.

She loved sporty cars and once drove a cherry red Mazda RX-7. Rosemary recently took a joyride with a dear friend in his Mazda Miata convertible.

In her later years, she enjoyed a quiet life - Sunday breakfast with her sister, Marilyn, talking on the phone with her sister Jean and her friends, and taking cozy naps with her beloved cat, Opal.

Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Linda Clairmont, formerly Linda Tyer, former Mayor of Pittsfield, and her husband Barry Clairmont of Pittsfield; son, Sean Casey and wife Christie of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Marilyn Herrman of Pittsfield, Jean Hughes of Gilroy, CA; and brother, Richard Govoni of Lenoxdale. She also leaves her grandchildren, Caroline and Anna Grace Casey.
