Obituary for Rose M. Aulisi Gennari

Rose Marie Aulisi Gennari, 84 of 25 Terrace Avenue, Pittsfield died Sunday, March 7th, 2010 at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Born on September 9, 1925 in Pittsfield a daughter of Italian Immigrants the late Peter and Stella LaPorte Aulisi. She attended schools in Pittsfield and was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was a June 1946 graduate of the Saint Luke's School of Nursing and while in the nursing program was chosen to become a cadet nurse during World War II. Mrs. Gennari was a registered nurse at the former Saint Luke's Hospital where she worked as a charge nurse for four years. She also had worked at various nursing homes throughout her nursing career. She had been a volunteer for the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires, where she helped the elderly. She was a lifelong communicant and active member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Rose enjoyed painting, sewing, baking, reading medical books, drawing wild flowers and playing Bingo. Her beloved husband Gino J. Gennari Sr. whom she married June 10, 1950 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church died August 3, 1997. She is survived by her daughters, Maria Elaina Gennari of Pittsfield and Rosemary Jean Gennari-Leal and her husband Vincent of Broomfield, Colorado. Her Three sons, Michael John Gennari of Seattle, Washington, Gino John Gennari, Jr. of Pittsfield and Paul Andrew Gennari and his wife Miriam of Arlington, Virginia. Three sisters, Mary Coughlan and her husband Paul of Pittsfield, Lucy Aulisi of Pittsfield and Angelina Rische and her husband Richard of Cheshire. Her beloved four grandchildren, Teresa Ann and Briana Nicole Rusin, Rose Fatima Gennari and Oneida Summer Leal. Also survived by twenty two nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her adored daughter, Cynthia Rose Gennari who died on May 30, 1990 and by three sisters, Ann Corino, Antoinette Munroe and Eleanor Coughlin. Rose was a kind and gentle soul. She was a devoted wife, mother, a loving grandmother, and a true friend to all of us. She opened her heart to all those she met and she treated everyone regardless of their station in life, with dignity, respect and kindness. Her raw honesty, spunk, wit and sense of humor were her trademarks that all in her company loved and appreciated. She simply was the best.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Rose M. Aulisi Gennari will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Church, celebrated the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, CSS. Burial will follow in the family plot at Saint Patrick's Cemetery, West Stockbridge. Calling hours at the Dery Funeral Home will be Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials in her memory may be made to Child Reach International or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital both in care of the funeral home.
