Obituary for Roger W. Gavin Sr.

ROGER WILLIAM GAVIN, SR., 81, of Wahconah Heights, Pittsfield, died
Wednesday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Hinsdale, March 20, 1925, a son of Patrick H. and Lila E. Bishop Gavin, he attended the former St. Charles School and was a 1944 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School.
Following graduation, Mr. Gavin worked 15 years as a mill worker at the former Wyandott Mills. From 1959 to 1970, he was employed by Pittsfield Cemetery. For ten years following, he was a foreman for Berkshire Contractors, an affiliate of Berkshire Gas, from where he retired in 1980.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid Red Sox fan, and also enjoyed watching boxing and horseracing.
Mr. Gavin leaves his wife, the former, Joan S. Morin, whom he married November 6, 1958.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Roger W. Gavin, Jr., of Pittsfield; a
daughter, Joan E. Chapman of North Adams; a brother, Robert "Skip" Bristol of
Pittsfield; three sisters, Eleanor Gavin, Dorothy Bristol, and Caroline Casey, all of
Pittsfield; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for ROGER WILLIAM GAVIN, SR., who died Wednesday,
February 28, will be Friday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. William D. Furey, Pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Gavin may be made to Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. Mr. Gavin is also survived by his son-in-law, David W. Chapman; daughter-in-
law, Julie A. Gavin; seven grandchildren, Melissa A. Bombard, Renee J. Gavin, Roger
W. Gavin, III., Jacalyn J. Gavin, Tammy M. Chapman, David J. Chapman, and Mark A.
Chapman, as well as six great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by four brothers.
