Obituary for Roger A. Cyr

Roger A. Cyr of Cheshire, age 80, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on March 28, 1942, Roger was the son of the late Adrien J. Cyr and Yvette Sirois Cyr.

His schooling began in Pittsfield and at age 9 he went to St. Coletta School for Exceptional Children (The Cushing School) where he remained until his mid-twenties. Upon his return to the Berkshires, he attended various programs, including Berkshire Unlimited.

In the latter 1980s, he became part of the BFAIR family living at the Flood House in North Adams. His community service included working at the Greenhouse in Williamstown, the bottle redemption center in North Adams, and the YMCA in Pittsfield. In 2001, he moved to the residence of Bill and Vera Kelton of Florida Mountain where he became part of their family for 17 years. In the summer of 2018, Roger left the Kelton residence because of poor health and moved to a BCArc home in Lenox. He attended the BARACO day-habilitation program where he made friends with clients and staff. He was well known wherever he lived, greeting everyone with a handshake and a big smile.

He is survived by his sister, Joanne Pasquini of Cheshire, her husband Jim, their daughters Jill (husband Kevin) and LeeAnn (husband Nate), his two grand-nephews Anthony and Angelo and many cousins in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine. He also leaves behind his extended families: Bill and Vera Kelton, as well as his housemates and caregivers at West Street in Lenox.
