Obituary for Robert Louis Tauer

Robert L. Tauer, 79, passed away July 15, 2022, at his home on Pecks Rd. in Pittsfield, MA.

Robert was born in Springfield, MA, 1943, to the late Louis Robert Tauer and Eleanor Rasmussen Tauer. He grew up in Chicopee, MA, and graduated from Chicopee High School in 1961 and from Hampden College of Pharmacy in 1967.

Robert was a pharmacist for 37 years at Ryan Drug in Springfield, MA, and Best Buy Drugs in West Palm Beach, FL, before buying Fahey Drug Company in Pittsfield. He then worked for Rite Aid and Brooks Pharmacy until he retired in 2006.

Bob loved the ocean and spending time with his family. In his earlier years, Bob enjoyed deep sea fishing in Gloucester and taking in the arts around Rockport. He made his home in the Berkshires and spent time fishing and boating on local lakes with his family as well. Bob found beauty and joy in all of the seasons. He absolutely loved playing Yahtzee with his wife, Judy, and listening to music, mostly country, but he also enjoyed a wide genre from Elvis to Dave Matthews. Bob had a deep love and respect for nature and all animals.

Bob will be remembered for his unconditional love and kindness. He was the steadfast patriarch of the family and loved by everyone who knew him. He would help anyone, in any way he could, with no expectations of anything in return. All who knew and loved him will miss his subtle sense of humor, his optimistic attitude, and his generosity.

Robert was predeceased by his wife, Judith Ann (Pemble) Phillips, his ex-wife, Mary C. (Tauer) Anderson, his son, Jonathan L. Tauer, his stepdaughter, Susan Pemble, and his stepson, Earl B. Pemble Jr.

Robert is survived by his son, David W. Tauer of Chester, NH, and two stepdaughters, Judith Furey of Cheshire and Deborah Zieba (and husband Michael) of Adams, MA. He also leaves his dear brother John Tauer (and wife Judi) of the Villages, FL, as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Before Robert’s passing, he suggested that if people wished, donations could be made in lieu of flowers to “Soldier On” supporting transitional housing for homeless veterans (in Pittsfield, MA, and Leeds, MA) or to the Berkshire Humane Society and mailed to Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral mass will be held at St. Charles Church in Pittsfield, MA on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 11:00AM.
