Obituary for Robert J Sedgwick

Robert John Sedgwick, 81, of 26 View Street, Dalton, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Pittsfield on April 7, 1931, a son of Richard and Agnes Gaudette Sedgwick, he was educated in Dalton schools and was a graduate of Dalton High
School. He served in the United States Army National Guard from 1948 until 1959. Mr. Sedgwick was employed as a chemist for Crane & Company, Inc., for
forty three years retiring in 1993. He had also been a real estate agent for Ken's Realty in Pittsfield for several years.

Mr. Sedgwick was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton where he served as a lay reader. He was a member of the Masons, Unity Lodge AF&AM, and was a member of the Scottish Rite in Pittsfield and the Consistory Valley of Springfield. Mr. Sedgwick enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Peru, hunting, and fishing with his grandson, Charles. He also enjoyed crafting, pickling, and caning. When able, Bob was the type of person who would do anything to help people out, and in the end that showed by all the friends, family, and neighbors pitching in to do the same for him, doing whatever he needed help with.

Mr. Sedgwick's wife, the former Catherine E. Biegel, whom he married June 29, 1957, in Grace Episcopal Church, died March 28, 2011. Mr. Sedgwick is survived by two daughters, Deborah Jean Baker of North Adams, and Brenda Lee Darby and her husband, Darryl, of Peru; two brothers, Thomas Sedgwick and his wife, Vicki, of Dalton, and Merwin Sedgwick and his wife, Ann, of Dalton; his grandson, Charles Robert Baker of Pittsfield; his brother-in-law, Henry R. Biegel and his wife, Connie, of Lanesborough; as well as many nieces and nephews; his "Daughter No. 3" Christine Peck Cooney of Dalton; many close friends and neighbors
and his faithful sidekick, Simon.

Bob also leaves many grand puppies and animals of his daughter, Brenda, which he always helped to care for when able and enjoyed when they would visit his home.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
A Service of Christian Burial for Robert John Sedgwick will be held Tuesday, October 16, at 10:00 a.m., at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Daina Salnitis, Rector, as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday,
from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in memory of Mr. Sedgwick may be made to Grace Episcopal Church in
care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
