Obituary for Robert W. Mayer

Robert W. Mayer, 90, of Sugar Hill, 45 Main St, died Sunday, November 15, after a short illness.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y., on Sept. 8, 1919, son of Herman and Helen Mayer, he graduated form Mont Pleasant High School in 1937, and from MIT in June, 1942, with a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
He was employed at GE for 43 years, and retired in 1984: for the last 23 years he served as Manager of Engineering of the Ordnance Department. In his early career he was Project Engineer on various missile programs, and became an expert in the design of automatic control systems. In 1951 he co-authored the book "Servo Mechanisms and Regulatory Systems Design" with Harold Chestnut. His achievements were recognized by many technical awards.
Robert served in the Dalton Planning Board for many years where he helped revise the zoning bylaws. He and his wife Eugenia also enjoyed singing in the choir of the Dalton Congregational Church.
With his boundless energy he designed and built is first house in West Hill in 1948, and a camp on Lake George, N.Y., in 1956. He enjoyed weekend racing of his Star class boat on Hague bay with the Northern Lake George Yacht Club. Skiing at Jiminy Peak and photography of fall foliage were his seasonal favorites.
He leaves behind his three sons, Richard A. Mayer of Hadley, MA, Christopher R. Mayer of Windham, N.H., and Jonathan C. Mayer of Goshen, MA He also leaves four granddaughters, Jessica Peterson of Weare, NH., Lauren N. Mayer of Longmont, CO, Courtney A. Spalding-Mayer of Chicago, IL., and Madeline T. R. Mayer of Goshen, MA.; and two great-granddaughters, Victoria F. and Emma G. Peterson.

Funeral Notice- A memorial gathering for Robert W. Mayer who died on Nov. 15, will be held at his assisted care residence, Sugar Hill, 45 Main St, Dalton, MA on Saturday Nov 28. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Ashuelot Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Mayer may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation in care of the DERY
