Obituary for Robert L. Jordan

ROBERT L. JORDAN, 80, formerly of Dalton Division Road, Pittsfield, died
Friday, February 29, at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Pittsfield, December 30, 1927, the son of Louis and Margaret Bass
Jordan, he attended St. Joseph Central High School and was a graduate of Berkshire
Community College where he earned an Associate Degree in Police Science on June
1, 1972. A World War II veteran, he served as a Private in the United States Army from
1945 to 1947. Upon his discharge from the Army, he worked for Halverson Tree
Service. Mr. Jordan was appointed to the Pittsfield Police Department in 1957. He was
promoted to Sergeant in May of 1966, Lieutenant in July of 1966, and Captain and Chief
of Detectives in February of 1976. For many years, he was the firearms instructor for the
Department. He was also instrumental in modernizing the communications system for
the Police. He retired from the Pittsfield Police Department in 1977.
Following his retirement, he owned and operated Jordan's Gun Shop for many
years. An avid outdoorsman, he hunted and fished for more than 60 years throughout
New England and New York state, and was a member of numerous sportsmen's clubs in
Berkshire County. He was a competitive skeet and target shooter. Mr. Jordan was
one of the founding members of the Gun Owners Action League for Berkshire County.
In the early 1950s, along with Mr. Albert "Curly" Voll and Mr. William Allard,
he competed and won numerous small motor boat races in the New England area.
His wife, the former Lucille Roberts, whom he married July 28, 1956, died
February 19, 2005. Mr. Jordan is survived by a his daughter, Kathleen J. Kirchner and her husband,David F. Kirchner, Jr., and grandchildren, Nicholas D. Kirchner, and Laura K. Kirchner all of Milford, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his cousin, Evelyn Duffy, and nieces, Lynn Coakley, Susan Coakley, and Patricia Murphy. Mr. Jordan also leaves his
dear family friends, Donald and Shirley Andrews of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ROBERT L. JORDAN will be Tuesday, March 11, at
11:00 a.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor of St.
Charles Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Street Cemetery in Adams.
Calling hours will be Monday, March 10, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Jordan may be made to the GOAL
Foundation or to the Lee Sportsmen's Association both in care of the Funeral Home, 54
Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
