Obituary for Robert L. Heimann

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert L. Heimann, age 90, announce his passing on January 28, 2023. Born in St. Louis, MO on July 27, 1932, Robert was the second son of Joseph Charles Heimann and Rose Marie Baumann Heimann. Robert graduated from William Cullen McBride High School in St. Louis in 1950 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from St. Louis University in 1954. He went on to earn his Master of Science degree in Industrial Administration from Union College in 1979. He was the first of the Heimann and Baumann families to earn a college degree.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army, honorably discharged in 1956. In 1956, he began a long career with General Electric, ultimately moving to Pittsfield in 1960 to work on the Polaris Missile System at General Electric Ordinance. He retired from GE in 1993 continuing to work as a Control Engineer for General Dynamics until 2001.

Robert was a wonderfully loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and papa. He was a strong and sturdy man who had a quiet and gentle spirit. He loved being outdoors tending to his beautiful gardens. An engineer to his core, Robert knew how things worked and was the ultimate handyman. He was an avid reader of science fiction and loved all types of puzzles. He was long time faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen, of forty nine years; his sons Joseph, Robert, Thomas, Michael and Shaun (Sonya); his daughters Martha, Georgia (Robert) and Kristine (Steve); his grandchildren, Louis, David, Michael (Jackie), Megan (Sam), Thomas, Jack, Grace and Charles. He had a special place in his heart for his daughter Anna who died in 2002 and Grandson Adam who passed away in 2018. He was also predeceased by his parents, his brother Joseph and his first wife Jean Anne Hutton Heimann.

Funeral Notice: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday February 4, 2023 at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Soldier On or to Sacred Heart Church, both in care of the funeral home.
