Obituary for Robert W. Harris Sr.

ROBERT W. HARRIS, SR., 70, a resident of 14 Country Road, Hinsdale,
for the past year and a half, formerly of Old Windsor Road, Dalton, for over 40
years, died peacefully at home on Tuesday evening. Born in North Adams, March 8, 1938, a son of Arthur and Margaret Hawley
Harris, he was a 1957 graduate of the former Dalton High School.
A United States Navy veteran, Mr. Harris served as an aviation electrician
at the Brunswick Naval Air Station and for two years served aboard the USS
Tarawa Aircraft Carrier in Rhode Island.
Mr. Harris was employed as a Mill Wright for Crane & Company, Inc., where
He worked for 38 years retiring in 2000.
He had also served as a part-time Police Officer with the Dalton Police Department for 1969 to 1978. He was a 4l-year member of the American Legion Post 155 and was a member of Wahconah Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. He was a New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, who also enjoyed NASCAR, snowmobiling, tractor pulls, and going to Foxwoods. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, and his dog, Aurora.
Mr. Harris leaves his wife, the former Kay A. Walsh, whom he married August
3, 1957, in Dalton Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert W. Harris, Jr., and his wife,
Judy, of Windsor, and Daryl K. Harris of Pittsfield; two daughters, Dawn M. Harris of
Hinsdale and Audra J. Love of Windsor; a brother, William A. Harris of Savannah,
Georgia; four sisters, Sandra Page of Dalton, Dorothy Beebe of Hinsdale, Marjorie
Rancatti of Hinsdale, and Bonnie Lemuth of Stephentown; seven grandchildren,
Laura Harris, Matthew Robitaille, Bethany Robitaille, Jason Harris, Justin Harris,
Kyle Love, and Cody Love, and a great, grandson Corey Sullivan. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Daniel Harris in September 2006 and a sister, Marilyn Schnopp in October 1979.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ROBERT WILLIAM HARRIS will be Friday, March 14,
at 1:00 p.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME. Calling hours will be Thursday
(today) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Harris may be made to Dalton Ambulance and Rescue or Hinsdale Volunteer Ambulance, both in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
