Obituary for Robert L. Gallant

Robert Leo Gallant, 85, died January 27th at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Worcester Mass., he was the son of Mary and Ernest Gallant. Educated in Worcester schools, he graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School and South High, and received a BS in
Industrial Arts from Fitchburg State College in 1953 and a master's in education from North Adams
State College in 1959.
Mr. Gallant was an educator in the Pittsfield schools for 30 years, teaching industrial arts for ten
years each at South Junior High, Crosby Middle School, and Taconic High School, where he was chairman
of the department. In the early 1960s, he and four or five other industrial arts teachers built houses for
each other. One Summer, he led the Neighborhood Youth Corps in repairing and painting some of the
buildings at Hancock Shaker Village.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Wahconah Country Club, and Pittsfield Family YMCA.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Mary Granfield, his daughter, Jennifer M. Gallant, and grandchildren, Jessica L. Gallant, Nicholas R. Gallant, and Lara E. Gallant, two brothers,
Kevin Gallant of Worcester, and James Gallant of West Roxbury.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael F. Gallant, and six brothers and sisters.
Mr. Gallant has donated his body to University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
A memorial mass for Robert Leo Gallant will be celebrated on Saturday, February 8, at 11:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church with Father Peter Naranjo officiating. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made in his memory to Sacred Heart Church or to Pittsfield Family YMCA in care of
DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
