Obituary for Robert B. Duffy

Robert Bernard Duffy, 91, of 154 Crane Avenue, Pittsfield, died Sunday, May 18, 2014, at
his home.
Born in Pittsfield on May 3, 1923, the son of Peter and Marie Marcel Duffy, he was a 1941
graduate of St. Joseph Central High School.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Duffy enlisted with the United States Navy in 1943. He served on
Minesweeper YMS-11 for the invasion of Iwo Jima. He had also been stationed in Mindanao, Philippines, as well as in Australia where he traveled coast-to-coast on the old narrow gauge railway.
He was honorably discharged with the rank of Quarter Master Second Class in 1946.
Mr. Duffy was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Works
from where he retired as Construction Engineer after forty years service.
After receiving his associates degree in civil engineering from Lowell Tech, he taught evening classes in surveying and mapping for Lowell Tech at Berkshire Community College.
He was a communicant of St. Charles Church.
He was a member of the General Electric Athletic Association where he enjoyed playing golf.
He was a Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed gardening and doing crossword puzzles in pen.
Mr. Duffy leaves his wife, the former Evelyn Mary Troy, whom he married April 21, 1951.
He is also survived by a daughter, Maureen Duffy, and her husband, John Celardo, of Fanwood,
New Jersey; a son, Michael Duffy and his wife, Gail, of Pittsfield; and two grandchildren, Meaghan Duffy
and Ryan Duffy.

FUNERAL NOTICE:
Funeral services for Robert Bernard Duffy will be held Thursday, May 22, at 10:45 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m., at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford
Street, Pittsfield.
