ROBERT 'BOB' BEALS, 62, of 92-31 57TH Avenue, Elmhurst, New York, formerly of Pittsfield, died of cancer on Sunday, August 27, at the Margaret Tietz Hospice in Jamaica, New York.
Born in Pittsfield, September 16, 1943, he was the only child of Julie M. Cote
Beals and the late Robert E. Beals. He attended the former Notre Dame Grammar School
in Pittsfield, and then for two years, attended the former Cranwell Preparatory School in
Lenox. He was a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School.
In 1965, he moved to Boston, and while attending the University of Massachusetts there, he was employed by Boston Cab Company as a taxicab driver.He moved to Queens, New York, in 1971, and took classes at New York University night
school to study computer programming. He was also fluent in the Spanish language.
In 1982, Mr. Beals went to work for N.W. Ayer Advertising in Manhattan for two
years, and then to the Ted Bates Advertising Agency, also in Manhattan, for two years.
He then worked for Altschiller Advertising in New York for five years, and most
recently, for the Avrett, Free & Ginsberg advertising agency also in New York where he
worked for eleven years. He retired in 2001.
He was a communicant of St. John the Apostle Parish in Queens, New York.
While in Pittsfield, he was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church.
Mr. Beals was a longtime member of the Society for the Preservation and
Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singers of America (SPEBQSA) and sang in several quartets. His love of music and barbershop singing and arranging brought him many hours of enjoyment. One of his proudest achievements was in 1970, when he arranged and managed the barbershop music for his mother's championship quartet, the
Pinker-Tones. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball and was a dedicated Yankees fan. He
loved the theatre, entertaining, and photography. He was also a movie buff, and an
avid reader who cherished his collection of first editions. Besides his mother of Pittsfield, Mr. Beals is survived by his longtime friend,
Anthony Joseph Rozboril with whom he made his home.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for ROBERT 'BOB' BEALS, of Elmhurst, New York, formerly
of Pittsfield, who died Sunday, August 27, will be Friday, September 1, at 8:15 a.m.,
from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m ., at
St. Joseph Church, celebrated by Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor. Burial will
be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4:00
to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr.
Beals may be made to the Margaret Tietz Hospice in care of the Funeral Home, 54
Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
Mr. Beals also leaves two uncles, Alfred J. Cote and George R. Cote, both of
Pittsfield; and two aunts, Therese C. Cote of Pittsfield, and Adele L. Ostrander of
Alexandria, Virginia, as well as several cousins.
